Worship Gathering
Each Sunday NC gathers for worship and teaching. We begin at 5:30 and are finished by 7:00. KidsPlace is open for infants through 5-yr olds. We meet at the Skinner Center at Peabody Park (712 Tanglewood). The setting is casual, so dress comfortably.
What should you expect on a typical Sunday?
People normally begin filtering in around 5:15. At 5:30 we start with some music. The children normally join us for this time It is a wonderful time of singing and laughing--we never know what a kid might do! After the first few songs the kids are dismissed to KidsPlace.
Our teaching format differs from some churches. The person teaching might spend several minutes giving the context or background of the text we are studying. However, after that they will open it up for dialogue by asking questions and getting the perspective of the group. No one, of course, is put on the spot, and we find that most people really enjoy hearing what others have to say. Some will share their insights, their confusion, and some may stay silent during the discussion, all of these are valuable.
After the teaching time we return to worship and take communion. Each Sunday we close our time with communion, which reminds us of the broken body (the bread) and the shed blood (the grape juice) of Jesus, who died a sacrificial death so that we could be reconciled to God. During this time we are able to sing along in worship, take communion at our own pace, and sit and reflect upon what God might be saying to us. After this the evening is ended with a prayer of blessing.
