Our Name

It's a beautiful thing, naming a church; kinda like naming your child. You throw a lot of names out there at once and try to mix and match them. You try one as a first or middle name hoping to find that right combination that will sound good when they are called out for awards in school or during the starting lineup at the ballgame. And then it happens, all the effort and naming and worrying about what people think and then, VOILA!, it happens-what you've been wanting has finally come, a name arises that you feel bespeaks the character you want your child to have. It just feels right and you wait for the little one's arrival so you can be the first to say it.

We have decided to name the church Neighborhood Church, hence the big name across the top of this page. As we brainstormed we had before us names that pointed out the artistic side of our faith and some that highlighted a singularly beautiful thought about following Jesus. In the end we decided that Neighborhood Church was a name that defined our mission, our intent and our vision. We are a church, which is really a group of people who orient their lives around Jesus in a holistic way. He is our hero and we love, worship and serve him. Further, we want to be a church who loves and serves the neighborhood and who has the welfare of the neighborhood in mind at all times.

It is also a name we hope to grow into and, though we might stumble, the desire is there. We believe we have a long, beautiful time ahead of us as we grow toward loving God, one another and the city in a more thorough way. So, though we are a work in progress-I mean, we did just get our name and all-we welcome you to the Neighborhood!
